A bit of History fer ya!

On March 18th 1776 the second Continental congress authorized  Privateers to join the ranks of the Colonial Navy.   The action was taken after British Parliment prohibited trade with the colonies.

To Protect the "American" ports many a man with a swift sailing vessel were welcomed. It be told that a few of the mates even Joined the citizens militia and Laffeyette to defend the Annapolis Harbor.

Thankfully the English ships were no match in speed to the small Chesapeake sailing craft!

All told Privateers siezed or sunk over 600 ships in the Revolutionary war.

After the war many returned home to colonial life but fer many whom were still haunted by their experiences in battle.
Home would no longer seem to be an  option.  Instead many turned to drunkeness, lawless behavior and ultimaty Piracy.
An interesting end for the Privateers whom without we might be saluting the Queens flag.
When the British Returned in 1812 sometimes called "The second Revolutionary War".  Privateers again showed their Patriotism, and proved their bravery by siezing over 1300 British ships.

In honor of these unsung patriots .......

Some of the best sailors in the thirteen Colonies with some of the worst reputations.
